What brought you to UT? The opportunity to be the founding Vice Chancellor for Diversity and Chief Diversity Officer
What is your favorite book or current reading? I have a number of books that I really like: Blood Done Signed My Name by Timothy Tyson; Raising Fences by Michael Datcher; Rage of a Privileged Class by Ellis Cose; The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down by Anne Fadiman. However, If I had to choose a favorite book, it would be Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison
What is the best advice you have ever received? To always be open to hearing about new opportunities even if you think you are not interested.
Who has had the biggest influence on your life and why has that person played such an influential role? Dr. Nancy ‘Rusty’ Barceló. She took an interest in me early on in my career, has encouraged me to pursue opportunities, and provided me with key leadership opportunities.
What is one thing you would like people to know about you? I am grateful for every day and every opportunity I am given.
What are top three items on your bucket list?
1) Travel to Africa
2) Visit all 50 states (I’ve been to 41 so far)
3) Take my mother and sisters on a dream family vacation
